Role overview

This job description has been rewritten in fresh language using the facts in the listing. Source credit and original listing details are available below.

Deepgram is hiring a full-time Backend Software Engineer for its Voice Agent Engine Team. This remote role is open in the United States and pays $150,000–$220,000 per year. The engineer will lead the design and implementation of the Voice Agent product, building secure, reliable, scalable backend services for speech processing and supporting integrations across telephony providers, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, and different deployment scenarios.

The work spans Deepgram’s inference services, including networking, speech processing, model orchestration, and observability. You’ll also integrate in-house, third-party, and open-source AI models, investigate complex issues involving scheduling and highly concurrent workloads, adapt services to customer needs, and partner with Product to deliver services, features, or products from concept through implementation. The team values reusable, testable code and thoughtful tradeoffs between minimal changes and deeper design work.

Deepgram expects employees to use and experiment with advanced AI tools in their everyday work, and to adapt as tools and priorities change. The company describes its pace as fast-moving and says the work may not suit someone seeking a highly prescriptive role or a traditional 9-to-5 schedule.

At Deepgram, we expect an AI-first mindset—AI use and comfort aren’t optional, they’re core to how we operate, innovate, and measure performance.

Every team member who works at Deepgram is expected to actively use and experiment with advanced AI tools, and even build your own into your everyday work. We measure how effectively AI is applied to deliver results, and consistent, creative use of the latest AI capabilities is key to success here. Additionally, we move at the pace of AI. Change is rapid, and you can expect your day-to-day work to evolve just as quickly.
