Role overview
This job description has been rewritten in fresh language using the facts in the listing. Source credit and original listing details are available below.
Canonical is hiring a full-time Golang System Software Engineer for its LXD team. The role is remote in the United States; the description also identifies the position as available across the Americas and EMEA. LXD is building private-cloud infrastructure that brings together KVM, Ceph, and software-defined networking for enterprise and edge deployments. You would develop low-level Go software between LXD’s REST API and the C libraries that manage containers and virtual machines, with work spanning layers from kernel features to management interfaces.
The position focuses on system-level engineering, data modeling, and storage design in a distributed system. Canonical describes its workforce as globally distributed, with colleagues in more than 70 countries. The role includes working from home and 2–4 weeks of global travel each year for internal and external events; the company also describes in-person team gatherings, including twice-yearly team sprints.
Canonical lists a USD 2,000 annual personal learning and development budget, annual compensation reviews, performance-based annual bonuses, recognition rewards, annual holiday leave, maternity and paternity leave, and an Employee Assistance Programme. It also notes opportunities to meet colleagues in other locations, plus Priority Pass and long-haul travel upgrades for company events. Compensation depends on location, experience, and performance; no salary amount is provided.

The mission of the LXD team is to build a next-generation private cloud infrastructure, combining KVM, Ceph, and SDN technologies to create a data center scale cloud that 'just works' and provides a mission-critical cloud for edge and core enterprise deployments. We are hiring a Golang software engineer to work on the low level Go codebase sitting between our REST API and the low level C libraries used to manage containers and virtual machines.
